The Cognitive Circle was founded in 2001 by Isabel Jaén-Portillo, Stephen Pierson and Julien Simon. Our distinguished member is professor Howard Mancing, founder of the seminar "Cognition and Literary Theory" -one of the first in its nature- and leader of an innovative discussion group on Bakhtin.
Our research focuses on the connection between cognitive science and literature. We ultimately seek to develop a theory that helps us understand the literary phenomenon in the context of the human embodied mind and its dynamic interaction with the environment.
